Sunshine on the Horizon

Sunshine on the Horizon in Newport

‘Jay and Karen explain how sunshine is now on the horizon in Newport.’

Although the temperatures are dropping quickly, sunshine is on the horizon in Newport, New Hampshire! From a renewed job training program, to expanding housing opportunities, and new and intriguing community building projects, the Newport Sunshine Initiative is moving forward and gaining momentum. While the goal of the Sunshine Initiative has always been to revitalize the economy and spirit of Newport, our most vital projects center on Newport’s families. By increasing the number of safe, comfortable single-family housing opportunities and creating stable, rewarding careers, Newport has the chance to return to and even surpass its former glory.

The newly renovated RISE program will allow residents of Newport the chance to receive accredited, free training in the ever-evolving Salesforce economy. A recent article on Yahoo Business stated, “Salesforce and its ecosystem of partners will create 4.2 million new jobs and $1.2 trillion in new business revenues worldwide between 2019 and 2024.” Dubbed the ‘economy of tomorrow,’ our hope for the salesforce economy and the training we will be offering is to revolutionize the workforce in the Sunshine Town. Opening Newport residents up to the thousands of high paying, stable jobs available around the country – while continuing to live in and enjoy the quality of life available our wonderful town.

If you want to learn more or partake in the new program, please make sure to join us for our monthly meeting next Wednesday, Nov. 20th. We will be getting together at 6.00 pm at the Salt Hill Pub. We will be hosting two very special guests: David Kelly, housing developer and investor and Dave Arnold, CEO of Retrieve.com. By working with partners such as David and Dave and bringing new opportunity in both housing and jobs, the Sunshine Initiative is keeping the positive energy alive in Newport!

Sunshine in Hong Kong – Echoing the American Revolution

The violence has now escalated in Hong Kong – with protesters, many of whom are quite young, demonstrating in the streets – all in the cause of freedom. The human spirit is alive and well in Hong Kong. And the people of this great city will not be denied their freedom.

This is why I believe that sunshine is on the horizon in Hong Kong. It may take a while to arrive – but make no mistake, the Hong Kong people are motivated by the same yearning for freedom that sparked the American Revolution. They deserve our highest respect and appreciation – as well as our support.

While the protesters have largely been quite peaceful, the Hong Kong police have now been infiltrated by representatives of the Chinese state – and have cracked down on the marchers. But additional force will only embolden the brave young Hong Kong protesters. Much like our Founding Fathers, we now see the people of Hong Kong yearning to take off the yoke government oppression and demand liberty and basic freedoms. And, as such, we offer them our full support.

The Navy SEAL’s and Great Friends from New Hampshire

This past week, our good friends Phil and Julie Taub of Swim With A Mission were in Fort Pierce, Florida. They spent Veteran's Day at the SEAL Museum, showing their support and giving their thanks for the efforts of our military and the many brave men and women who defend us. Phil and Julie have accomplished so very much to aid the Museum and deserve our deepest appreciation.

In fact, thanks to the efforts of the Taub’s and the gracious giving of other donors, this year, Swim With a Mission has been able to deliver a $500,000 check to the SEAL Museum! That’s half a million dollars! This check will be used to benefit SEALs in so many important ways. Phil and Julie have given generously, and we are truly grateful for their leadership.

Profiles of the Week:

Al Baldasaro

As we come off of an exciting week paying tribute to our veterans, we offer them thanks from the bottom of our hearts. Over the course of the Sunshine Report we have mentioned many veterans and those who have advocated for veterans causes. And going forward, we will continue to showcase and highlight individuals who are truly making contributions in service to our country!

With his in mind, this week we are recognizing an outstanding veteran and public servant. The Honorable Representative Al Baldasaro.

For those of you who know Al, you know he speaks his mind and is driven by passion. Serving in the Marine Corps for twenty-two years, Al isn’t bashful.

When Al entered into the fray of public service it wasn’t all instant victory. Al was the Republican candidate for State Representative in a special election and lost his first election by only a few votes. The following year, determined to once again stand up for his neighbors and fight for what he believes in (just like he did in the Marines), Al was elected by the voters of Auburn and Londonderry.

Today, Al remains a member of the Londonderry delegation in the New Hampshire House of Representatives and is a vocal leader on veterans causes. Never one to back down from a fight, Al has worked shoulder to shoulder with fellow veterans and advocates to ensure veterans’ healthcare is at the forefront and we are doing something about veterans care rather than just talking about it.

Whether it be on the local level or on the national stage, Al Baldasaro is someone veterans can depend on and is truly making a difference in the lives of those who have served.

George Hansel

Mayor elect George Hansel of Keene is truly a bright star of hope and inspiration. At a young age George has accomplished already what some do in a lifetime.

George is a small business owner in Keene, creating quality jobs and securing opportunities for New Hampshire’s western part of the state. But he wanted to do more and entered the fray of public service when elected in 2015 to the city council.

George worked in a bipartisan manner to advance causes for economic growth and for downtown revitalization. His approach and style is why he was the highest vote getter in his 2017 re-election campaign and most recently elected Mayor of Keene.

Mayor elect George Hansel is a key example of tomorrow’s leaders now and I for one know that George Hansel has created a fresh new way of governance and positive approach to public service

We have always held to the hope, the belief, the conviction that there is a better life, a better world, beyond the horizon.

Franklin D. Roosevelt

Never look down to test the ground before taking your next step; only he who keeps his eye fixed on the far horizon will find the right road.

Dag Hammarskjold

For other nations, utopia is a blessed past never to be recovered; for Americans it is just beyond the horizon.

Henry Kissinger

A well-ordered life is like climbing a tower; the view halfway up is better than the view from the base, and it steadily becomes finer as the horizon expands.

William Lyon Phelps

The wideness of the horizon has to be inside us, cannot be anywhere but inside us, otherwise what we speak about is geographic distances.

Ella Maillart
